Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts and consisting of five members including principal songwriter Michael Angelakos, Passion Pit are my favourite new band of 2009 simply for the fact they put a smile on my face. Consisting of high pitch falsettos, poppy synth and funky bass, their music is the metaphorical equivalent of wolfing down a large bag of Skittles without suffering from a case of ‘rankmouth’ at the end. Considering the project originally began as a collection of demos Angelakos wrote for his girlfriend as a Valentine’s Day present, I can only hope their debut album ‘Manners’, set to be released in on May 18th, brings a happy ending to this delightful story so far.
Tracks from Passion Pit’s debut EP ‘Chunk of Change’ can be found on their MySpace and if you like the sound of those, you can purchase the six song collection for £5.99 from Play.com
